A poetry competition is accepting entries until September 7 on the theme ‘A Bright Future’.
With awards going to those under 18, over 18 and an additional award for those in the Waltham Forest area from which the organisers, Forest Poets, are based.
The winners will be decided by judge Meryl Pugh, from Leyton, who writes both poetry and fiction with extensive experience teaching both.
Three prizes can be won in each category for first second and third place. The adults prize will win £300, £200 and £100, young poets win £50, £30 and £20, and the Waltham Forest winners will win 50, £30 and £20 (all respectively).
The winning poems from each category, plus a number of commended poets, will be published in a prize winners’ anthology and on the group’s website.
The overall winner of the adult and young poets’ competitions will be offered Poetry Society membership.
Prize winners will be notified in late September 2018 and invited to an award ceremony in Walthamstow on Monday, October 29, at Ye Olde Rose and Crown Theatre Pub in Hoe Street.
No person may win more than one prize, though more than one poem may feature in the list of commended poems.
Due to the sheer volume of entries, only successful entrants will be notified. Details of the full winners list will be announced publicly on the website in October 2018.
