The Starlighters Theatre Company, based in Walthamstow, is presenting their latest show High Heels And Muddy Boots Welcome, in memory of their founding members Don Munro and Anton Copley and the play will feature songs and sketches they both loved performing.

Don, who was born in 1928, became a director after serving in the Royal Air Force and finding a passion in the theatre sector. Over the years, he put on many shows at the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Opera House and other big venues in London, as well as putting on shows for the Royal Family. However, in April this year he sadly passed away but kept pursuing his passion until the end, as he was in the middle of putting on a new show.

Anton, was the group's beloved artistic director and playwright who designed intricate sets with colour and creativity and also wrote a variety of revues, pantomimes and comedies since the group began 40 years ago. He died in 2010 and now the group feels it is the right time to commemorate them both.

Sandra Jerome, Starlighters committee member and director of various shows, explains why the show will celebrate everything the founding members enjoyed as performers.

She says: "Anton died in 2010 and Don died earlier this year in April so we wanted to pull together a show that really brought together all their contributions from over the years at the company.

"As a result, there will be songs written by Anton that were sung by Don, along with sketches that they both loved from previous shows and there will be a real mixture of elements that are relevant to them."

The theatre group has been a place for people to follow their passion for performing in their spare time and since 1980, the group has adapted Cinderella, PantoMania and One Night Only!

Sandra explains: "It is Walthamstow based and so we have around 15 members from the area involved. Although numbers fluctuate as people join and leave, there is a core group of members who have been with us for a long time.

"The theatre group has been a good outlet for people over the years, as it is made up of people who just love to perform and make people happy. Everyone is really good friends and they do it alongside day jobs, so it is a passion and a hobby for the people involved.

"There are four of us on the committee who keep the group going but we all pitch in with directing too. I have dabbled in helping to direct this show and will be doing the next show, but not many details have been released about that yet."

Sandra reveals the reason Starlighters was originally set up.

She says: "The group was set up more than 40 years ago by Don and Anton and the sole aim was to raise money for good causes, so over the years thousands of pounds have been raised for local charities and also overseas one too.

"The latest show will raise money for Crest of Waltham Forest, which helps marginalised and disabled people in the area. They offer a full day opportunity service including transport to and from one of two centres in Walthamstow and Chingford, group games, activities, exercise and a healthy cooked lunch three days a week. It is a good cause."
