A pub could be demolished to make way for a new apartment block after developers made their plans public.

Plans have been submitted to build 13 apartments on the site of the Sixteen String Jack pub in Coppice Row, Theydon Bois.

A planning application has been proposed to Epping Forest district council for the demolition of the existing pub and the erection of apartments which will include parking and a communal garden.

The village pub has been closed since May and has since been boarded up to prevent trespassers.

Developers Strutt and Parker explained the pub's closure in the proposal:

“The motivation to seek an alternative use for this site is due to falling custom as a result of changing demands in the leisure industry which the Sixteen String Jack has been unable to meet.”

The last landlord had a year-long lease for just £1 a month for the first six months in order to try and turn the struggling business around.

That lease expired last June and was not renewed.

The development will be discussed by Theydon Bois parish council at a meeting on October 16 at 8pm at the scout hut in Loughton Lane.

The public are invited and the parish council welcomes any letters of objection to the planning application.

The parish will then advise Epping Forest district council, which will make the final decision by November 20.
