The Met Office is warning of severe gales across Essex this evening.
A yellow warning has been issued for the south-east of England, with extreme weather set to arrive at around 3pm and last throughout the night.
Spells of heavy rainfall and gusts of 50 to 65mph are expected.
The Met Office said there may be disruption to travel due to standing water and spray, and power supplies could be at risk.
The middle River Roding, which runs through Loughton and Buckhurst Hill, is currently on flood alert.
