Safety concerns have prompted a care home inspection less than a year after it was last visited by inspectors.

Staff at Treetops Care Home, in Station Road, Epping, have faced another inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for failing to protect residents from potential harm by not recording accidents properly.

A warning notice was issued by the CQC and the care providers were given until October 20 last year to respond.

Care homes are usually inspected at least once a year, but the latest inspection means Treetops has now been visited three times since the start of 2014.

The last report, based on an inspection last August, identified problems with the quality and the suitability of management at the home, which is for over-65s only.

It said that the care home was failing to meet the proper standards for “managing risks and assuring the health, welfare and safety” of people receiving care in the home.

Issues included accident and fall records omitting where and when the accident had taken place, and a lack of response to resident feedback.

The CQC has the legal authority to take further enforcement action, up to and including prosecuting or removing a provider or manager’s registration, effectively closing the home.

A spokeswoman for the CQC confirmed the home had been inspected again in response to the issues identified in the report, but she said there would be no comments on individual issues until the new report is published.

The managers of Treetops Care Home have been contacted for comment.
