Fallen trees led to homes being evacuated as winds up to 50mph hit London and the south-east yesterday.
Firefighters and police were called to Lambourne Road in Chigwell at 3pm after a large tree had struck a house.
There were reports of considerable structual damage one house.
People living in the property and their neighbours were evacuated.
The tree was removed by 4.45pm.
In nearby Wanstead, traffic came to a standstill after a large tree fell in New Wanstead, at the junction with Hollybush Hill.
The road was blocked by police in both directions for several hours, with buses on diversion.
There were no reported injuries at both incidents.
