A film has been released of a biker as he travelled at the highest speed ever recorded with a pillion passenger.

Paul Roberts was spotted by police weaving in and out of traffic on the southbound M11 at 148mph with the passenger on the back of his Kawasaki ZZR 1400 on September 12 last year.

The 43-year-old, of Malkin Drive Way in Harlow, was chased and eventually stopped in Chigwell by motorcycle officer PC Paul Hills, who filmed the pursuit.

Roberts was banned from driving for 15 months and fined £400 at Chelmsford Crown Court today (March 30) after admitting dangerous driving.

He was ordered to do 120 hours community service, take an extended re-test and to pay £60 costs.

The film shows Roberts weaving through small gaps in the traffic at high speed.

Sergeant Nick Edwards said: "The levels of harm to which Paul Roberts subjected himself, his pillion passenger, the public and my officer are just beyond comprehension.

"These speeds are for race tracks not public roads.

“This riding behaviour will not be tolerated on Essex roads and the court has clearly recognised the consequences of the rider’s actions in the punishment that has been awarded.

“The Essex Police Casualty Reduction Section continues to focus on targeting drivers and riders that through their actions pose the greatest risk of harm to themselves and other road users.”

PC Hills and other police motorcyclists had been carrying out a specific operation targeting motorcycle commuters using the M11 in response to complaints from members of the public about inappropriate filtering between lanes and a high number of serious motorcycle collisions.
