A businessman is seeking permission to transform a neglected green space with a weekly boot sale and clean up.

Eddie Edge, 52, of Wood Green Road in Waltham Abbey, who returned to the United Kingdom in January after having his much-loved successful boot sale taken over by the council in Belalmadena, Spain, has applied to lease Lucton’s field in Loughton.

The field, which belongs to the Epping Forest College, was 10 years ago part of plans to provide sports facilities as part of a major development on the Borders Lane campus however due to a lack of funding, the college were unable to proceed to Phase 2 in the development and the site has since become overgrown.

Mr Edge said he hopes to introduce weekly clean ups including grass mowing, litter picking and bramble trimming to make the field “a nicer environment for dog walkers and home owners”.

Epping Forest Guardian:

The 11 acres of land is currently overgrown, filled with rubbish and rarely used.

The boot sale, which if approved will open in May, would see up to 500 cars a week on the land as well as the introduction of noise level marshals, traffic flow directors and toilets.

Mr Edge said: “we are hoping to open the boot sale in May.

“I really want to make sure we have the community support before we open it as I wouldn’t want to upset anyone.

“The plan is to attract a lot of people to the area which would benefit shops in The Broadway as well as the boot sale.

“In the lease we would also have access to 300 parking spaces in the college so that will not be a problem.

“I hope the weekly tidy ups will make Lucton’s field a nicer environment for dog walkers and home owners.”

Residents and interested parties are invited to send views on the proposal to luctoncarbootsale@outlook.com before April 7.
