A landlady touched by the story of a desperately ill two-year-old girl is to stage a number of events for potentially life-saving treatment.

Ruby Young was began refusing food and wheezing just before her birthday in June last year.

She was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an aggressive form of cancer, and has undergone ten grueling rounds of chemotherapy.

But she has an 80 per cent chance of relapsing.

Her parents are trying to raise £500,000 to pay for Ruby to take part in a clinical trial in America if her condition deteriorates.

Ria James, 26, who owns The Merry Fiddlers Pub in Fiddlers Hamlet, found out about Ruby's plight through a friend and is holding the first of a series of events to raise money on June 27.

Epping Forest Guardian:

Two-year-old Ruby Young was diagnosed with the cancer in 2014.

Ruby’s mother Victoria said: “The first part of Ruby’s life was very normal but in June last year if began to change.

“By July Ruby had become very withdrawn.

"She had stopped eating, she was vomiting and her temperature was constantly spiking.

“On August 3 2014, Ruby was admitted to hospital after the doctor felt a lump and that is when we were told she had the worst stage of neuroblastoma.

“I can’t even put into words what that was like, being told your little girl has cancer.

“I couldn’t believe it at first, I was looking up online survival rates and I was so scared.

“This £500,000 is providing a safety net for Ruby.

“If she relapses we will have the funds to go to America and give her a better chance of beating the cancer.

Epping Forest Guardian:

Despite 10 rounds of chemotherapy there is an 80 per cent chance Ruby will relapse.

“I cannot believe the generosity and kindness of people in this world.

“We are so grateful to Ria for hosting these events.

Ms James said: “I heard about Ruby through a friend on Facebook.

“When I read about how much she needed to raise to be able to get the treatment in America I knew I needed to help.

“Her story really touched me.

“We hope to raise as much as possible with the Ruby Red Ball and we will host ongoing events until Ruby’s target is met.”
