An urgent appeal has been made to find three people to fly drones for an unusual project after a previous operator crashed his craft.

The Waltham Abbey Historical Society (WAHS) has made the appeal ahead of staging a second “human chain” around the church in Highbridge Street.

The project aims to map the ancient abbey walls with volunteers holding hands, who are then photographed from the air.

The society hopes to find three drone pilots as they expect an increased attendance on last year’s event, which attracted around 200 people.

The previous photographer crash-landed his remote control in water.

The event is being staged on June 27, but organisers need to contact drone operators beforehand because of health and safety regulations.

If you are able to help or know someone who may be able to, contact organiser Chris Sumner by phoning 07831 595 700.
