A racist headteacher who called a colleague a “Polish slapper” and shouted “do you want to become a paedophile?” at a pupil has kept her position as a parish councillor.

Anupe Hanch, 49, who is an independent councillor in Abridge, was found guilty of misconduct earlier this month after allegations were made of racist and other discriminatory behaviour while she was headteacher of Gearies Junior School in Barkingside between 2005 and 2012.

Despite the findings Mrs Hanch has not been suspended from Lambourne Parish Council, which met last night (May 20).

A National College for Teaching and Leadership panel found that Mrs Hanch “showed a concerning attitude to race and belief” and that “some of her actions could have had a long term detrimental effect on those involved, including teachers and pupils”.

Allegations that were proven against Mrs Hanch included calling a pupil a “devil” and saying “I'm going to have to break down 5,000 years of Islam to get through to her” about a member of staff asking for time off to volunteer for the Olympics.

While reviewing CVs for a job, Mrs Hanch said “If we have any more Muslims in here it’s going to start looking like Al Jazeera”, and in 2010 she said of Muslim colleagues taking leave for Eid: “I’m not going to be like those f***ing Muslims taking a day off for Eid.”

Mrs Hanch denied all allegations but the panel decided she “was not a credible witness”.

Despite the number and severity of allegations proven against her, council chairman Arnold Raven has refused to comment on Mrs Hanch’s position as a councillor.

He said: “She was not at the meeting last night and nothing was discussed about her or anything else.”

He added: “She gave her apologies at the last meeting and we have not seen her since.”

Cllr Raven refused to comment further, claiming “it is an ongoing thing” despite the panel’s report being published earlier this month.

Mrs Hanch was suspended as headteacher when the allegations were made against her in July 2012.

The panel is set to decide whether any further action should be taken on June 3.
