A jogger has died after being hit by a car.
The woman, who was in her 40s and from Woodford, was jogging in Chigwell Rise, Chigwell, shortly after 8am yesterday (May 31) when she was struck by a car, which then collided with a tree.
Police have made an appeal for witnesses to the crash after the woman died at the scene.
The car involved was a blue Skoda and passengers in the vehicle were treated for slight injuries.
The 18-year-old driver was arrested in connection with the crash.
He was later bailed until September 5 pending further enquiries.
Police closed the road for about five hours while initial forensic investigations were carried out.
The jogger’s death follows a serious collision between a cyclist and a car in Loughton on Saturday which left a 51-year-old cyclist in a “critical but stable condition”.
Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to police, or anyone with information about events leading to the incident, should contact the Essex Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit by phoning 101 or emailing collisionappeal@essex.pnn.police.uk.
