A man has raised more than £600 in memory of a teenager who was killed after crashing his moped while being chased by two unmarked police cars.

Shane Yerrell, 31, of Cullings Court in Waltham Abbey, set himself the bungee jumping fundraising challenge after meeting the family of 18-year-old Henry Hicks earlier this year.

Henry was killed after colliding with a car in Islington near his home just a few days before Christmas last year.

Four Scotland Yard officers were served with gross misconduct notices as part of the ongoing Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) investigation into police actions leading up to the tragedy.

A ‘justice for Henry’ petition set up online by sister, Claudia Hicks, has more than 25,650 signatures of support.

Mr Yerrell, who jumped 200ft in front of crowds at the Green Dragon Pub in Market Square, Waltham Abbey, on Saturday (August 22), said the jump was "terrifying".

Epping Forest Guardian:

Mr Yerrell jumped 200ft from a crane on Saturday in front of friends and family.

The 31-year-old, who has been victim to two knife attacks and has previously raised money for teenager Liam Bradshaw, who was left with brain damage following a crash which killed three of his friends, also organised an evening event on the same date.

Residents were entertained by live performances from artists including Lydia Lucy and Jade Ellis from ITV’s X-Factor as well as fire breathers, a DJ and a raffle.

Mr Yerrell said: "Jade Ellis and Lydia Lucy performed really well and Luciee Closier from the voice turned up to make a surprise appearance.

"Local rapper Tayzor performed and a local Dance group called Streetz Ahead done really well.

"The jump went well when I eventually had the courage to do it.

"I was up there for about 15 minutes before I actually jumped because I froze at the top after looking down and seeing how high it was.

"In the in I just thought whatever, this for someone that lost his life and I have got family and my closest mates below supporting me.

"So I manned up and went for it.

"I cant remember too much about falling.

"I was waiting for the bit where I bounced back up.

"When that happened it was a big relief.

"It was a buzz but I don't think I would do it again as I am not a big fan of heights.

"I will continue to support the Henry Hicks campaign and I really hope it works out for his family in the end.

"I hope they get the answers they deserve."
