Bogus callers claiming to be council workers have targeted members of the public.
Epping Forest District Council has warned people after fresh reports of scammers knocking at doors, asking for money for building work.
The council warned that its workers never ask for payment and always carry identification.
A spokesman said: “If you receive an unexpected visit from someone claiming to be working for the council, always check.
“We nearly always make an appointment first.
“All our staff and subcontractors carry ID.
“You can call us 01992 564 000 to check they are who they say they are and we will never ask you for money on the doorstep.
“If you think a bogus caller may be in your area call the police immediately.”
