More than 100 people came together to celebrate the opening of a new community garden.

The Grow garden was officially launched on Sunday (July 24) on a plot of land off Pyrles Lane in Loughton.

Volunteers from the food-growing project shared their plans for the land with members of the public.

Tours were organised, and Epping Forest Field Centre hosted nature-themed activities for children while families enjoyed picnics.

Loughton Town Council agreed to lease the land to Restore Community Centre to develop the garden.

It is hoped the garden will “bring people together” to grow food and meet new people, and it will be open to everyone regardless of age or ability.

Town mayor Carol Davies cut a ribbon to open the project, expressing her support and excitement for the project and the positive impact it will have on the area.

Project manager Anne Redelinghuys said: “It is really exciting to see so much interest in this project from the community.

“We want to bring people together to grow food which will increase access to healthy produce as well give opportunities for people to learn, connect with others and improve wellbeing.

“This is a project for the community, by the community and we welcome everyone to come and be a part of this project.”
