POLICE have recovered a stolen car and arrested the driver following a daytime car and foot chase near a school.

Ignoring the demands to pull over, the driver of a blue Vauxhall Corsa tried to out-drive and then outrun police on Cavendish Road, Highams Park, before midday today (August 23).

The man, in his 20s, drove through a no entry sign and chose to leave the car while it was moving and make his escape on foot.

A police officer chased the man on foot while another PC, driving from the opposite direction, blocked his way.

The man was stopped and arrested near Selwyn Primary School, in Cavendish Road, and taken to an east London police station.

Police found drugs in the car, which had false license plates and was stolen from the borough of Hillingdon on August 8.
