Two people have been left with suspected serious head injuries after a crash between a lorry and a car.

Air ambulances have been scrambled for both patients after the crash outside Top Golf in Abridge Road, Chigwell, at about 3.49pm today (September 20).

The casualties are being treated at the scene by four ambulance crews and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance, with the East Anglian Air Ambulance also en route.

Sergeant Colin Shead from Essex Police warned people to avoid the road, which he said will be closed “for some time”.

Update 5.14pm: One patient has been airlifted to Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, the other to St Georges Hospital in Tooting.

A third patient has been taken by land ambulance to Whipps Cross Hospital for further treatment.
