A FORMER investment banker who opened a chippy says he did it as a "challenge".

Andrew Hung, of Buckhurst Hill, quit his job to take over mychippy.com in Bush Hill Park, Enfield, in 2014.

The family shop had also been a restaurant before it was destroyed by a fire.

But two years on, his business is stronger than ever and he has been named as one of the country's Top 10 newcomers for the second time.

Mr Hung, 39, said: “I took it over as a challenge, to see what we could do. We always try and get better.

“They say fish and chips always taste better at the seaside, so we’ve tried to bring the seaside to Enfield with the Whitby knowledge.

“There are 11,000 chippies in the country, you have to have a fresh approach to stand out.”

New chef Andrew Hodgkinson, originally from Doncaster, said: "I feel like I am teaching Londoners about real fish and chips – there would be nothing better than winning this award and showing the northerners what we can do.”

Mychippy.com will now be visited by a secret tester in the coming weeks, in the hope of being named the overall champion at the end of the year.
