A cleaning company which dumped waste removed from an office in Epping Forest has been fined thousands of pounds.

Bee Services, based in Woodside, Epping, was fined £5,000 after company director, Bill Johal, pleaded guilty to failing to dispose of waste correctly.

In November 2015, the company fly-topped rubbish in Weald Hall Lane, in Thornwood and Old House Lane, Roydon.

Epping Forest council was force to clear up the waste, which included black sacks of shredding, old files, wood, cardboard boxes, and other waste.

Most importantly, the rubbish contained envelopes addressed to the offices of the company from which the waste had been removed.

Bee Services said it usually sent waste to be disposed of at one of its premises in Kent.

However, on this particular occasion, it had been given to a man in a van without checking he had the correct waste disposal licence and without exchange a waste transfer note.

In addition to its fine, the company was also billed £732 in court costs and a £170 victim surcharge.

Bee Services was also ordered to pay £100 to Epping Forest council for clear up costs of the rubbish dumped.

Cllr Will Breare-Hall, the council’s portfolio holder for environment, said: “Businesses that produce commercial waste have a duty of care to dispose of their rubbish properly.

“They must always check that anyone they give their rubbish to has the correct licence and exchange the right documents.”

”I would urge business owners to always check, challenge and record all the details of anyone who takes their rubbish away.

“If their waste ends up being fly tipped it can prove to be extremely costly for the company if they have not complied with their duty.”

”Complying with waste duty of care is essential in the battle against fly-tipping, to stop waste getting into the hands of rogue traders who fly-tip for profit.”
