TWO men injured in a fire which claimed the life of a woman have died in hospital.

The alarm was raised shortly after 4am on Monday (February 6) and firefighters and paramedics attended the fire in Laburnum Avenue in Hornchurch.

The two men and the woman were rescued from the building and treated at the scene before the woman was pronounced dead and the men were rushed to hospital.

All three are believed to be from the same family.

Part of the ground floor of a mid-terraced house was damaged by fire.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters had the fire under control within two hours.

London Fire Commissioner Dany Cotton said: “My thoughts and those of everyone at the brigade are with the friends and family of the three people who have died following the tragic fire in Hornchurch on Monday morning.

“Firefighters worked extremely hard and did all they could in difficult conditions.”

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire.
