A schoolboy has paid tribute to supporters after they helped him raise thousands of pounds in memory of his grandfather.

Ross Taylor, 13, from North Weald, collected more than £2,000 for Macmillian Cancer Support by organising a charity head-shave in December.

The Epping St John’s School pupil was raising money in honour of his grandfather, Raymond Bentley, who died of cancer in February last year.

Ross said: "I would like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my fundraising for Macmillan Cancer patients.

“I decided to shave my hair off to raise funds for cancer patients. I am sure my granddad would be very proud of me and would like to thank everyone as well if he was here.

“Big thanks to my family, friends and Epping St John School, where my granddad was also a pupil when he was a boy, for all the support and donations.”

Mr Bentley, also known as Beano, was born in Essex in November 1943, he married childhood sweetheart Maureen in 1966 and became the father of Daron and twins Lisa and Marie.

He had six grandchildren, Chloe, Joshua, Max, Ross, Millie and Fay, and was described by his loved ones as a loving, fun, kind, supportive, loyal man who was protective over his grandchildren.
