Councillors are calling for residents to be consulted before proposed parking restrictions are introduced on several Epping streets.

Epping Town Council is opposing a scheme for residents in Ivy Chimneys Road, which it claims would not solve issues with parking in the area.

Various schemes for roads across the town have been proposed by Epping Forest District Council.

Ivy Chimneys Road has been identified in the past as a hotspot for pavement parking, where drivers leave cars mounted on footpaths, blocking the way for pedestrians.

Councillor Barbara Scruton, speaking a planning and general purposes committee meeting last Tuesday, described Ivy Chimneys Road as "a nightmare".

She said: "I think we should be lobbying to get some parking bays on the green. I cannot see what they would gain from residents' parking."

Committee chairman Nigel Avey said there needed to be a "more imaginative scheme" to deal with the problem.

Town councillors are have also criticised plans to introduce a residents’ parking scheme in Lower Swaines, branding the idea “impractical”.
However, the council has given its backing to a similar proposal in Stonard Hill.

Councillors have called for residents to be consulted over the parking situation in Tidys Lane, after district councillors proposed yellow line restrictions on the road.

Town councillors have instead suggested a residents’ parking scheme should be introduced on the street.

Lincolnsfield has also been earmarked for a possible residents' parking scheme, although town councillors want those living in Lincolnsfield area as a whole to be consulted before any decision is taken.
