CCTV images have been released of two suspects after a shop worker was attacked with a crowbar during an attempted robbery.

The incident took place at the “Palm 2 Store” in Lower Clapton Road, Clapton, shortly after midnight on November 21 last year.

The victim, a 28-year-old shopkeeper, had closed the store for the evening, when two masked men forced their way in.

The suspects grabbed the victim before demanding that he open the shop's ATM. They struck him repeatedly around the head and on the kneecaps with a crowbar when he was unable to do so.

The attack lasted almost 10 minutes before the suspects fled empty-handed.

The victim required hospital treatment for serious injuries including a fractured cheek bone, a broken finger, cuts and bruises.

Detective Inspector Paul Ridley, from Hackney CID, said: "This was a particularly savage attack with an unnecessary and sustained level of violence resulting in significant injuries to the victim.

"Although the two males have their faces partially covered, I am convinced that somebody will be able to recognise them from this footage and I would urge them to contact me or a member of my team.

"It is vitally important that we find these men in order to prevent them from carrying out further violence against other potential victims.

"I can personally assure you that all information received will be treated in the strictest of confidence."

  • Anyone who recognises the men, or was in the area at the time of the attack, is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555111.
