Police have charged a man over an assault that left a person fighting for their life in hospital.

The 34-year-old man, who is yet to be named, will appear at Stratford Magistrates Court today (Monday, March 13) charged with GBH and ABH following an incident in Haggerston on Saturday.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the junction of Middleton Road and Kingsland Road at around 1.25am on Saturday morning following reports of an assault.

Two men, aged 30 and 35, were taken to hospital. The first man has been discharged, however, the second remains in a critical condition with serious head injuries.

Officers believe the victims were set upon by two men at around 1.15am. Both suspects made off from the scene on foot after the attack.

Detectives believe witnesses may have recorded mobile phone footage of the incident or the aftermath, and they need to hear from anyone who captured such material.

An 18-year-old man was arrested yesterday in connection with the investigation, but was later released without charge.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may assist police is asked to contact detectives at Hackney CID on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
