AN ISLAMIC charity has won an award for forging strong ties with Christian organisations.
PL84U Al-Suffa has been named as third prize winner in the World Interfaith Harmony Week competition for its event.
The event in St Gabriel’s, Havant Road, Walthamstow, held in February, saw organisations working together to provide meals and clothes for homeless people.
Charity organiser Saira Mir will travel to Jordan in April to be presented with a bronze medal and £5,000 by King Abdullah II.
Ms Mir said: “We’re over the moon about coming third in the world and we’re so excited about our trip to Jordan to meet the king.”
World Interfaith Harmony Week, which started in 2007, calls for Muslim and Christian leaders to engage in dialogue based on two common religious commandments, love of God and love of neighbour.
