A ROCKSTAR is planning to build an olympic-sized swimming pool with a bar in his garden.

Sir Rod Stewart, who lives at Durrington House in Sheering, applied for planning permission to Epping Forest District Council on April 8.

If accepted, it would allow him to build a two lane 20m swimming pool in a building detached from his five million pound mansion.

The pool is believed to be for the dad-of-seven’s eldest son, Alastair, 11, who is a keen swimmer and has already won a number of competitions.

The 72-year-old’s plans for the pool were discussed between District Council planning officers and his planning agent before an application was submitted.

Pre-application advice given to Sir Rod said that the pool was too large and out of character for that specific area.

However, an amended plan which keeps the pool the same size, but reduces the height of the building, is being recommended.

The design statement says: “It is not unusual for the owners of such impressive properties to desire a private swimming facility for their personal use. The pool is also designed as a training pool for the owner’s son, who is achieving high level performance in competitive swimming, hence the size and shape of the pool.

“There would be absolutely no potential or architectural justification to incorporate a pool into this historic building or add it as an extension to the house.”

The pool would also include a bar, changing rooms and a dining area.

The plans will be discussed at a planning meeting next month.

Sir Rod Stewart moved into the Grade-II listed house last year after buying it with his wife, Penny Lancaster, in 2013 and renovating it.

The pair were recently criticised for pretending to kill each other in an ‘Isis style beheading’ in a desert in Abu Dhabi.
