A POPULAR venue says it has been shut down by police "until further notice".

Essex House, a bar and grill restaurant in Station Road, Chingford, say the police went to the venue at 4pm yesterday and gave them a notice preventing them from opening.

They add they have not had the chance to appeal and are “able to count the minor incidents we’ve had on both hands.”

The incident was described as “terrible news” by Facebook users.

Dave Younger said: “Just plain stupid, can’t wait until you are open again!”

Olivia Labadie said: “Cannot believe this, such a joke. I always have the best nights there.”

The news also “confused” some users. Kerry O’Reilly said: “Just awful for everyone involved. It is a fantastic venue and run exceptionally. Make sure you fight this and get back open. As a local resident, there is no where else to go.”

The Guardian Series has contacted the Metropolitan Police for comment.
