A MAN has been taken to hospital after being hit by a bus.

The incident happened at around 10am this morning (Wednesday May 3) near the corner of Selborne Road and Hoe Street in Walthamstow.

Christine Bennett who works at the Goose pub in Selborne Road, found the man, believed to be in his thirties, lying on the pavement bleeding from his leg.

The 62-year-old team leader said: “One of our customers came in and said someone had been in an accident so I went outside to see what had happened.

“I saw the man lying on the pavement. He was bleeding heavily from his left leg. It looked really bad.

“I took out stuff to help clean him up. Lots of people gathered around to help. No one knew him so someone called his brother on his phone.

“There were a couple of people helping him that couldn’t stop shaking so I brought them into the pub and made them tea.

“He was crossing the road when he was hit by the front of the bus near where the doors are.”

Police and ambulance services attended and the man was taken to hospital.

Alessandro Pinna, who runs a coffee kiosk outside Walthamstow Central station said: “I was trading and a customer came up to me and told me someone had been hit and it looked serious.

“The police arrived and blocked off the roundabout and then the ambulance came within a few minutes.”

Traffic diversions were put in place around the gyratory after the incident. Selborne Road has now been reopened.

Hattie Dogan, who works at Central Flowers in Selborne Road, said: “I saw someone fall down on the ground and there were lots of people gathering around him.”
