A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a teenager in Walthamstow last week.

The suspect, aged 18, was detained by police this morning (Monday, May 15) on suspicion of killing 17-year-old Elijah Dornelly in an incident last Sunday.

The man was arrested at an address in Uxbridge and taken to a north London police station, where he remains in custody.

Elijah was found by officers suffering from a serious stab wounds in Walthamstow High Street, at around 11.30pm on May 7.

He was taken to an east London hospital, but died from his injuries shortly after.

“While we have made significant progress with our investigation into Elijah's murder, it is vital that anyone who saw this incident, or the events leading up to the incident, gets in touch.

"While work continues to piece together Elijah's movements prior to his murder, I would directly appeal for witnesses to come forward and speak to officers - you may hold valuable information to assist us in this investigation."

Friends and family laid floral tributes to Elijah, known as “Ejay”, at St James Street station after his murder.

The teenager was a former pupil at Kelmscott Secondary School, in Markhouse Road, Walthamstow and is also thought to have attended Leyton Sixth Form College.

Just hours before he was stabbed, Elijah had joined hundreds of other campaigners to take part in an anti-knife crime march in central London.
