A NEW mayor has been elected for a town council.
Mick Fitch was elected as the mayor for Waltham Abbey Town Council with Jeane Lea nominated as deputy mayor at a meeting on Wednesday, May 24.
Outgoing mayor, cllr Helen Kane said her two years as mayor had been “a privilege, but hard work.”
She spoke of her time as mayor, highlighting the town show, the reopening of Epping Forest District Museum, redecoration work at Waltham Abbey town hall and plans for a new leisure centre on the Ninefields Estate.
She then thanked previous mayors, councillors and council staff before presenting a cheque of £3,581 to her chosen charity, Waltham Abbey Salvation Army.
Cllr Liz Webster, council leader, said: “You have not only represented the people of Waltham Abbey in Waltham Abbey, but taken it out to the bigger part of Essex.”
Mrs Kane said: “I hope the next mayor will be as proud as I have been to serve you.”
Cllr Mick Fitch has chosen St Clare hospice as his charity.
