PUPILS have raised more than £2,000 for charity after running a mile.

More than 185 children from Moreton Primary School in Ongar ran a mile for St Clare Hospice at an event called Mile For Moreton two weeks ago.

The children raised £2,400, a record for the event which has been running for three years.

They presented the money to a St Clare Hospice bear at an assembly last week.

Adelle Green, from Friends of Moreton (FOMS), said: “This is a record for us and the best year so far. The children were so happy to see Clare Bear again and they were very proud of themselves when we told them how much money they had raised for their school and the charity.”

FOMS also thanked Epping Fruit and Vegetable stall, who provided oranges for the runners, and Design and Print Thornwood for their help with the banners and sponsorship forms.

Dani De’ath, from St Clare hospice, told the Guardian: “It is a privilege to receive such strong support from our local schools and to see pupils come together to help raise vital funds and awareness for their local hospice. It is thanks to our local supporters like Moreton Primary that we can provide our skilled and compassionate care to every local family who needs us.”
