A COUNCILLOR was “absolutely thrilled” after being elected mayor of a town council.

Cllr Philip Abraham was elected to take up the role at a Loughton Town Council meeting on Wednesday, May 17.

Cllr Carol Davies handed over the position after serving for a year.

Mr Abraham said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have been elected as the mayor. I feel honoured to have been given the opportunity to serve the community in this role.”

Councillor Chris Pond said: “Philip is now in his second term as a town councillor and has served his apprenticeship as a devoted member of the planning and licensing committee. With the committee’s frequent and lengthy meetings, he has shown patience, endurance and forbearance.”

Mr Abraham then congratulated Mrs Davies on her service and Cllr Steven Murray on his appointment as deputy town mayor.
