A DRIVER who got behind the wheel even though he had been disqualified has been fined.

Paul Carmen, of Osprey Court, Waltham Abbey, was caught doing 40mph through the 30mph zone in Goldings Hill, Loughton, last July.

Two weeks later, he was caught doing 64mph in a 50mph zone on the M25.

But when he ignored fines and police turned up at his house, they found he had been disqualified from driving in June.

Carmen appeared before Chelmsford Magistrates court on May 30 and pleaded guilty to driving without insurance, driving while disqualified and two charges of speeding.

He was fined £400, banned from driving for another 32 months and ordered to carry out 200 hours of community service.

Roy Keyes, an investigating officer, said: “Carmen has shown a history of failing to respond to speeding notices and has flouted his driving ban, showing his disregard for the law.

“Speed restrictions are in place for a reason - to keep people safe. He has now been banned from driving again and given a significant period of disqualification reflecting the seriousness of his offences.”
