A man has died after a crash involving a hatchback and a Range Rover on a country road.

Emergency services were called to London Road, in Thornwood, near Epping, at around 2pm on Saturday (July 1) after reports of a traffic incident.

Police, firefighters and paramedics arrived on the scene to find a Volkswagen Polo and a Range Rover had been involved in a crash.

The Polo driver, a man in his 40s from Harlow, received emergency treatment, but later died at the scene.

The road was closed until around 7.30pm the same day while emergency services remained on scene and police conducted enquiries.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “A man has died following a road traffic collision in Thornwood.

"Police were contacted on Saturday with reports of a collision involving a Volkswagen Polo and a Range Rover.

"The Polo driver, a man aged in his 40s from Harlow, was treated at the scene but sadly died, despite the efforts of paramedics.”
