Stella Creasy received a letter from an anti-abortion activist, who told the MP they hoped one day she would “die like Jo Cox”.

The Walthamstow MP tweeted an image of the letter yesterday (Wednesday, July 6), which branded her a “murder (sic) of small babies”.

The letter went on to say: “hopefully, one day you will join that woman Cox”, a reference to Labour MP Jo Cox, who was murdered in her Batley and Spen constituency last June.

Ms Creasy responded by tweeting: “Pro-lifer who sends me hate mail about how I should die like my friend Jo Cox? No, that’s just #notcricket”

The MP celebrated a political victory last week, when she won the right for Northern Irish women to seek free abortions in England.

Ms Creasy’s proposed amendment to the Queen’s Speech was approved by the government after Chancellor Philip Hammond announced ministers had found the cash needed to carry out the policy.

The move avoided a potential rebellion by Conservative backbench MPs over the issue, after senior Tory MP Sir Peter Bottomley gave the amendment his formal backing.

Mrs Cox died after being shot and stabbed multiple times outside Birstall Library last year, where she had been due to hold a constituency surgery.

Thomas Mair, who had links to far-right groups, was found guilty of her murder in November 2016 and jailed for a full-life term.

Thousands took part in “more in common” events across the UK last month to mark the anniversary of the MP’s death, named after the phrase she had used in her maiden Parliamentary speech.
