A POP-UP shop will open to teach people new skills for Adult Learners’ Week.

The ‘Festival of Learning’ will be held at Central Parade, Hoe Street, Walthamstow to encourage people who have been out of education for some time to learn a new skill.

The aim of the event is to inspire people to develop the skills they need to get on in life and work.

Cllr Simon Miller, Waltham Forest Council lead cabinet member for economic growth and high streets said: “The purpose of the event is to inspire Waltham Forest residents to develop a new skill for work, rest and play and build their aspirations to develop a rewarding career that could improve their earning potential.

“We all know that education is the key to success but it doesn’t stop when we leave school.

“Don’t worry if you think you may not be able to afford your course fees, we’ve already thought of that. If you get benefits you will generally have your fees paid for you. If you’re on working tax credits and want to train to get a better job the council will pay 70 per cent of the fees for you to give you the helping hand you need.”

The Festival will run from Thursday July 13 to Saturday July 15. A wide range of handmade products such as clothes, jewellery and upholstery made by former students at adult learning courses will be on sale.
