A second high-rise building in Waltham Forest has failed safety tests being carried out in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire.

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has now confirmed 243 buildings in 57 local authorities across the UK have failed combustibility tests.

The figure contains a second building in Waltham Forest, after Lingfield Apartments at Walthamstow Stadium in Chingford, failed tests carried out on cladding earlier this month.

Neither the DCLG nor Waltham Forest Council have confirmed which building the problem relates to.

The borough is currently home to 21 blocks over the height of six storeys, with a raft of new high-rise buildings also having been granted planning permission in the past year.

The government ordered the tests following the fire at Grenfell Tower in North Kensington on June 14, which is now thought to have killed at least 80 people.

Testing will be carried out on all buildings taller than 18 metres with Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) cladding.

Some 235 high-rise residential buildings across the country have failed safety tests so far, as well as one combined school and residential building, another school and six NHS buildings.

The DCLG said it was still waiting on results from a round of further tests carried out earlier this month.

Waltham Forest Council has been contacted for comment.
