Children and young adults celebrated their amazing achievements after winning Jack Petchey Awards.

In total, 74 people aged 11 to 25 from schools across Epping Forest came together to receive their prizes. Seven of these were adults.

Winners, who were each given £250, were nominated by their friends and leaders for achievements, big or small.

Ellie Spencer, 17, Roding Valley High Ellie was nominated for her commitment to extra-curricular geography

She has made the most of every opportunity given to her and led the way during their field work exercises.

Ellie also played a key part in preparing and delivering a presentation at a conference, encouraging the best from other students. Her school said she always gives her heart and soul and is an inspiration to others.

Dafni Nitu, 17, goes to Davenant Foundation School

The teenager only joined Davenant at the beginning of this academic year yet she has thrown herself into the life of the school.

Dafni is an active member of the School Council and the peer mentoring scheme.

She is also an accomplished musician and participates in bands and orchestras both inside and outside school. Dafni has also been involved in numerous volunteering and fundraising projects – including raising cashfor Haven House Hospice.

Teale Cunningham, 16, attends Epping St Johns Church of England School

He was nominated for an award due to his outstanding student leadership. Teale has the ability to involve everyone and take an active part in events. In his role as Head Boy he has spoken at public events and has even been part of the winning Epping Forrest Parliamentary Debating Competition. He is very supportive of staff and will often help staff set up equipment and tidy away.

Teale’s school described him as ‘a kind and considerate young man.’ He has even taken ownership of the school student twitter account to champion the great activities happening at the school.

Aaron Clements, 12, West Hatch High School

Aaron has represented the school at a number of sporting events, as well as at district and county competitions.

Throughout he has shown great leadership qualities when dealing with his peers and adults. He is dedicated to his studies and performed a very important speaking engagement for the Headteacher.

Aaron’s school described him as ‘a real all-rounder and a credit to himself and the school.’ Sir Jack Petchey CBE aged 91, said “I am passionate about our awards scheme which enables young people to be recognised, valued and rewarded for their achievements and positive contributions to society.”
