An expectant mum says she fears for the health of her baby after waiting weeks for diagnosis over a medical issue.

Daryl Schneider, 27, has been labelled a high risk pregnancy due to several pre-existing medical problems when she first found out she was expecting four months ago.

However, the dental nurse, from Loughton, says she has been waiting almost a month for a diagnosis after she was admitted to Whipps Cross Hospital as an emergency with stomach issues.

Mrs Schneider says since test were carried out during her stay at the hospital on August 13, she has not received any further update on her condition from the gastroenterology department.

She also claims she has been unable to contact consultants at the Leytonstone hospital, despite letters from her GP to the unit, asking for her case to be treated urgently.

The expectant mum said: “It feels like I have been going round in circles, I have been calling every day trying to get someone to contact me.

“It has got to the point now where I have had to be signed off work sick because the problem is getting worse.

“I feel very depressed about the whole thing and I am disgusted that I have been treated like this, you would not expect them to be acting this way.

“I am not just worried for my health, I am worried for the baby. I am not gaining weight during my pregnancy and I do not know if my baby is getting enough nutrients.”

A spokesman for Barts Health NHS Trust, which operates Whipps Cross, apologised for any distress caused over Mrs Schneider’s treatment.

The trust also said the pregnant mum was due to have a follow-up appointment at the hospital later today (Wednesday, September 6).

The spokesman added said: “Mrs Schneider was booked a follow up appointment following her discharge from Whipps Cross Hospital in August.

“After she spoke with our clinical staff about her concerns, her appointment was brought forward to 6th September.

“We are sorry that she has experienced distress since her discharge from hospital, and our team will discuss her concerns and arrange the necessary support at her appointment.”
