A teenage Taekwondo star has become the third member of his family to be selected to represent his country in the sport.

Ibrahim Hussain, 15, of Walthamstow will follow in his brothers’ footsteps when he competes in the 48kg division of the Junior European Championships in Cyprus in November.

The triplets have been practicing the sport since they were six years old.

Ibrahim was picked to be part of the team of 16 athletes after impressive performances in Germany and Greece earlier this year.

The student at Beal High School, Redbridge said: “I was ecstatic when I was picked.

“I won a silver medal in Germany so I was not really surprised.

“I train six times a week, sometimes twice a day. My brothers are really happy for me and my family are all proud of me.

“I always wanted to go to fight at the championships.”

Adnan Karim who runs Waltham Estates in Hoe Street, Walthamstow has agreed to sponsor Ibrahim’s sporting journey.

Mr Karim said it was a “privilege” to be able to help the young sportsman and give something back to the community.

Ibrahim, who is a member of Gurumu Takewondo Club, East Ham, said the 4am starts for training with the international squad in Manchester were “worth all the hard work”.
