It’s never too late to try your hand at something new and this weekend pensioners across the borough will have a wide range of activities to choose from.

Silver Sunday, a nationwide celebration of older people and their contribution to society, will be marked with community events in Waltham Forest on Sunday October 1. 

The Equilibrium will present a theatre show, musical bingo and a film exploring what we gain with age at CentrE17 in Church Hill, Walthamstow.

A bowling session will be held at 10am at the synthetic bowling green in Walthamstow’s Lloyd Park and a gardening workshop will start at 11am in the garden behind the William Morris Gallery.

Elderly residents can reminisce about the old days on a history walk with a local expert at 1.30pm at Forest Road gate, Walthamstow.

For those looking for more strenuous exercise, a group will set off on a walk from the outdoor gym in Aveling Fields, Walthamstow at 12.30pm and an all-ladies walk will take place at 3pm leaving from Le Delice, Hoe St.

Residents can also take advantage of a trial session of Tai Chi at 2pm at the outdoor gym in Aveling Fields and free bike maintenance sessions which will run from 10am to 3pm at Leytonstone stations and Walthamstow Square Gardens.
