A GRASSROOTS group of Labour activists are holding a meeting tomorrow ahead of the broader party’s Annual General Meeting.

Between 7pm and 9.30pm at Lopping Hall in Loughton, Momentum Epping Forest will meet and hear from the chair of the Canterbury branch, Sarah Cundy.

The group, which acts as an unofficial wing of the Labour Party, hopes Miss Cundy can transfer some of the left-wing success she helped foster in Canterbury during last year’s snap General Election.

The Kent city shocked pundits by turning from Conservative to Labour, a swing largely attributed to the youth movement captured by Momentum.

Thomas Mitchell, a 21 year-old Momentum organiser and Russian language student, said: “Canterbury was one of the big surprise wins for the Labour Party at the General Election, and we’ll hear from someone on the ground during the campaign to find out how they achieved it.

“The meeting is really to motivate people.

“Because Epping Forest is so rightwing, the whole country will have to turn red before we do which is why it can be hard to motivate people.”

The following day the mainstream Labour Party meet for its regional Annual General Meeting.
