COMPETITORS stormed through the centre of Waltham Abbey today, flipping batter as they went for the much loved pancake race.

Since the turn of the decade teams of work colleagues, friends and families have been looking to batter each other in a flat-cake flipping run along Sun Street.

Come 10.30am and bods from the town’s businesses could be seen limbering up outside the library.

Epping Forest Guardian:

Once they had satisfied their competitive streaks through the medium of flour, eggs, milk and sprinting, the under fives led a more civilised affair at 11am.

Primary school pupils were up next, with proceedings finished off with the parents and carers race at noon.

The event was run by the Waltham Abbey Town Partnership and even featured a dignified dessert dasher in the form of town mayor Mick Fitch.
