Firefighters had to free two people from a car stuck in a tree after it was launched through the air during a crash.

Emergency services were called to Ongar High Street at around 11pm on Saturday evening after reports a vehicle had been involved in a collision.

When they arrived at the scene, they found two women were trapped in a car, which was stuck in a tree around four feet off the ground.

Firefighters from Harlow and Brentwood stations stabilised the vehicle due to its precarious position, before freeing the two women from the car.

Both casualties were released from the car by 11.40pm and were left in the care of the East of England Ambulance Service.
