STAR bakers have been called upon to get their spatulas and icing bags working in aid of the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT).

The charity has asked its supporters to host their own A Very British Afternoon Tea throughout June.

Whether cake lovers host an Afternoon Tea in their back garden or entice the office with a cake showdown, EHAAT’s free fundraising pack has tips and recipes to get things started.

Maria Alexander, EHAAT’s Head of Fundraising, said: “We are appealing to individuals, community groups and businesses who love cake to gather their friends and colleagues, put on an apron, and get baking.

"Last year’s A Very British Afternoon Tea was an extraordinary success, and we hope that this year’s initiative will continue to raise much-needed funds for our life-saving service.”

This year’s campaign features a former airlifted patient of the charity, Kate Oliver.

Eight years after a road traffic collision which left her in a coma with life changing injuries, Kate has made a good recovery and now runs a successful tearoom.

She will be hosting her own tea party in June.
