A MAN has been slapped with a large fine for failing to remove an illegal driveway.

In July 2012 Ivor Crandon was served a Planning Enforcement Notice requiring him to move a concrete drive from his land at 4 Ripley View, Loughton.

Following an unsuccessful appeal to a planning inspector and subsequent extensions of time granted to him by the planning authority, he was given until September 1, 2017 to do the necessary work.

An inspection by Epping Forest District Council officers on October 24, 2017 however, proved he had not.

At Chelmsford Magistrates Court on February 8, 2018 Crandon admitted failing to comply with the notice.

On April 13 an unsuccessful appeal against his sentence saw Mr Crandon fined £2,400 and made to pay the council’s prosecution costs of £508.26 and a victim surcharge of £170.

Crandon claims he is currently instructing arboriculture experts to work out how to ensure trees protected by tree preservation orders are not adversely when the driveway is removed.
