A police dog unit helped officers catch a young man suspected of drug offences.

At around 2am on Wednesday police received reports of a suspicious vehicle on Blenheim Way in North Weald.

When officers arrived they signalled for the car to pull over, but it drove away.

The occupants jumped into a second car in a nearby layby that fled at speed.

The car was found in Weald Bridge Road at around 3.05am.

A 20-year-old man from North Weald was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, failing to stop for police, driving without insurance, dangerous driving, possession with intent to supply and theft of a motor vehicle.

With help from police dogs, a 21-year-old man was found in Vicarage Lane East, North Weald Bassett, at around 4.05am.

They both remain in custody for questioning.
