Community groups are a little closer to buying a mini tennis court, a trailer and an industrial cleaning machine thanks to council grants.

Epping Forest District Council has given £19,000 to community groups across the area.

The 3rd North Weald Scout Group received £2,250 towards the cost of buying a trailer for adventure programmes for beavers, cubs, scouts and explorers.

The 414 Squadron Royal Air force Cadets was given £350 for a banner, the Buckhurst Hill Bowls & Lawn Tennis Club £5,000 to help build a mini tennis court and practice wall and Epping Bowls Club £600 towards the cost of a defibrillator.

Councillor Helen Kane, leisure and community services portfolio holder, said: “The Council greatly appreciates the work of the voluntary sector and encourages all local groups to get in contact to see if they are eligible to apply.

"The need for groups to receive funding is vital and our Council has funds available to support local groups. Our grants are a great opportunity to help others in our community.’’

Other recipients include Epping Youth FC which was given £2,660 for football equipment, Grant A Smile got £2,500 for an industrial cleaning machine and materials, Hertfordshire Boat Rescue was handed £700 towards the cost of a rescue sled to take on missions and WAY 2000 £5,000 towards the cost of delivering a counselling service for young people.
