A lifesaving defibrillator has been unveiled at a bowls club so it is “prepared for the unexpected.”

Epping Bowls Club took delivery of the new piece of kit from Epping Forest District Council and Epping Forest Town Council.

It was officially unveiled on Tuesday.

Louis Walton, community and grants officer and Cllr Nigel Avey, Epping Town Mayor, gathered at the Lower Bury Lane Club to help raise awareness.

The defibrillator, plus a plaque thanking both organisations for funding will be based in the vlubhouse.

The club needed to raise £1,200 for the defibrillator and training for members.

Funding of £600 was provided by the district council, and £400 from Epping Town Council.

The remaining £194 was provided by one of the club members.

Cllr Helen Kane, portfolio holder for leisure & community services said “In tough economic times the need for local groups to receive financial support is increasing. I am delighted that Epping Bowls Club has been able to use grant aid funding from the district council, to purchase a defibrillator which could save lives.

“Our grants are a great opportunity to help people in the community and I encourage local groups to get in contact to see if they are eligible.”

Cllr Nigel Avey was accompanied by his wife Caroline.

He said “It’s a pleasure for Epping Town Council to support this club, which has been established for many years, to acquire new life saving equipment. Bowls is a great game and we wish the Club many more happy years enjoying their sport.”

Club Captain Ron Perryman said “The club has talked about getting a defibrillator for some time, so we are especially pleased to receive funding. Although we hope it’s never needed we are now prepared for the unexpected. We are very grateful to both organisations for their support.”

Play at the club starts again next April through to September. Anyone interested in finding our more visit www.eppingbowlsclub.co.uk
