A charity will host a sponsored walk to raise money for those receiving palliative care.

The Michael Sobell Hospice Charity is calling on the community to support its forthcoming Historic Sponsored Walk taking place on October 7, in the run-up to National Hospice Care Week.

The seven-mile challenge will begin at 9.30am from Mount Vernon Hospital before continuing across Northwood, Moor Park, Rickmansworth and the Harefield countryside, including the Grand Union Canal.

Watford Observer:

Events manager for Michael Sobell Hospice Charity, Ophelia Chambers-Henry, said: “We’re appealing to all our loyal and dedicated supporters to get behind this event and show your support, and in turn help us to ensure those people who need hospice care in our local area continue to have access to it.”

The event is open to all ages and abilities, and dogs.

Ms Chambers-Henry added the charity wants to retain inpatient and day care services in a “rebuilt, renovated or relocated” hospice in the north of Hillingdon.

She went on to say: “This year’s walk will specifically raise funds for our day hospice, which provides an invaluable service for patients, carers and families.

“This gives our patients and carers access to nursing care; advice and support and complimentary, physical and art therapies-as well as funding the amenities such as massage oils and art equipment.

“The service relies solely on the charity's fundraising and would not be available to help local people without it.”
